Message from our Executive Director

We are at a critical juncture for early learning.  In this world of changing technologies and global interaction, we must think differently about how we prepare our children for success in school and in life.  All young children need opportunities to be immersed in high-quality early learning environments that develop their skills across multiple domains:  language and literacy, social and emotional, cognitive approaches to learning and health and well-being.

Ready At Five, along with its partners, are working urgently to ensure that all Maryland's children have their chance at the best future possible.  It's a matter of equity.  To meet this goal, we must all be ready:  ready and engaged families, ready and committed communities, and ready early childhood programs and schools with well trained and well compensated educators.  Working together, we can ensure that all our children - especially children with disabilities, dual language learners, those who are from low-income families - are ready to succeed in school and in life.

In the coming year, we will be faced with seemingly daunting challenges, but also extraordinary opportunities.  Ready At Five's rich resources can help parents, educators, advocates, policy makers, and members of the community help fulfil the promise of early learning.

We invite you to join us as we work to build a better future for all Maryland's children and families.

Best,

Steven R. Hicks
Executive Director
