On December 14, 2017, Ready At Five will host its 40th School Readiness Symposium, Equity in Literacy Must Start Early at the Turf Valley Conference Center in Ellicott City, Howard County. In partnership with the Maryland State Department of Education Division of Early Childhood Development and support from our sponsors, the symposium will feature Dr. Nell K. Duke, Professor of Literacy, Language, and Culture in the Department of Educational Studies at the University of Michigan. Click here for Symposium agenda and session descriptions.
"We can't achieve equity in society if we don't achieve equity in literacy," says Dr. Duke. "Inequities in early literacy development are an urgent problem—and one we can all do something about." Dr. Duke will share strategies we can use to increase opportunities for literacy learning in schools, child care settings, homes, and communities.
