About the event

Sonia Q. Cabell, PhD, will deliver the keynote address discussing how educators play a central role in building children’s early literacy skills that lay a foundation for later success in reading and writing. In this presentation, Dr. Cabell will provide an overview of research-based ways to support children’s development in the following areas: language and knowledge, print concepts, sounds and letters, writing, and text comprehension. She will include specific guidance on how to readily apply key practices when working with young children. As a resource, each participant will receive the book “Literacy Learning for Infants, Toddlers, & Preschoolers,” published by NAECY and written by Tanya Wright, Sonia Cabell, Nell Duke, and Mariana Souto-Manning. Four workshop choices, a buffet lunch and a presentation on "The Power and Peril of Supporting Young Children through Adversity"  by featured speaker Christy Tirrell-Corbin, PhD. will round out the symposium. Click here for the registration flyer. The symposium is supported by Brookes, Kaplan Early Learning Company and PNC Grow Up Great.
